THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT HAS REVERSED THE NEW JERSEY STANDARD FOR THE “JUSTIFIABLE NEED” REQUIREMENT FOR CARRYING A CONCEALED HANDGUN.

The State of New Jersey has stipulated training requirements which are necessary prior to submitting your concealed carry application.

Applications which are incomplete or do not meet the requirements will be denied by New Jersey State Officials.

YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO DEMONSTRATE SAFETY, FAMILIARITY, AND ACCURACY.  This will be a pass or fail, you must pass with an 80% or better.

If you believe you’re unprepared for a successful application. You must read below before wasting your time and money…

The New Jersey CCW training requirements are explained in N.J.A.C. 13:54-2.4(B) and 2C:58-4. These statutes require that a person wishing to meet the requirements of concealed carry attend and receive training and pass a qualification course of fire. The process consists of:

  1. Being thoroughly familiar with the safe handling and use of handguns as per N.J.A.C. 13:54-2.4(B)
  2. Submission of the applicant’s most recent handgun qualification scores utilizing the handgun(s) he or she intends to carry as evidenced by test firings administered by a certified firearms instructor of a police academy, a certified firearms instructor of the National Rifle Association, or any other recognized certified firearms instructor
  3. Passage of Use of Force laws by certified instructor

The Tactical Training Center offers a training program designed to meet and exceed the training requirements for the concealed carry application in New Jersey. Our instructors have experience and certifications far exceeding those at other ranges.

Carrying a loaded firearm is a massive responsibility, and we know NJ’s proficiency scoring will be hard to pass.

We highly recommend the following training courses to prepare for a successful CCW application in New Jersey.

  1. Basic Handgun Course (4 hours)
  2. Intermediate Handgun 1 & 2 ((2) 3-hour classes)
  3. Holster Draw 1 & 2 ((2) 3-hour classes)
  4. Concealed Carry Course (consists of (4) 3-hour classes)
  5. CCW Qualification & Readiness Class

8 seconds faster because “Smooth is Fast”. If you watch the video and keep track of the time, you’ll see that this shooter, C.S. (our shooter in the drill) is about 8 seconds faster than the majority of the other shooters. Listen to how long gunfire from other shooters continue after she completes her drill.

Let me explain why: Our student, C.S., does quite a few things correctly in her movements, all of which makes her efficient and safe as she engages the targets. Her muzzle is kept in a safe direction and it doesn’t seem to waver from a Horizontal Shooting Plane. Her combined shooting stance and grip allows her to manage recoil and the handgun barely moves between shots, allowing for on target repeat shots (as per the drill). Her finger comes off the trigger when not shooting; look at the conclusion of the drill and the magazine change. Her magazine change is robotically efficient; as the old magazine is being ejected, a new magazine is being brought to the handgun. During the magazine change the handgun is held at eye level, allowing constant visual contact with the threats/targets. Finally, at the conclusion of the drill she stops to reassess the targets, instead of automatically holstering. C.S. has all of the elements and mechanics to efficient and accurate shooting ingrained. For her, it’s just a matter of refining these skills for speed and accuracy.

Becoming a fast and accurate shooter, is a combination of acquiring skills and understanding efficient human movement. Speed and accuracy does not have to comprise safety, it should augment it. Learning to shoot fast and accurately is an acquired and appreciated skill. It takes time, instruction, practice and the development of skill to acquire it; and it will depreciate if it not maintained.

The Colt advertising saying goes, “God didn’t make all men equal, but Samuel Colt did”. Maybe that saying should be rephrased to “God didn’t make all men equal, Samuel Colt tried, C.S. trained smarter and some of the men cried!”
